ADVANTAGE MILAN IN SERIE A QUEST

AC Milan have a big advantage in their quest to win the Italian Serie A title this season after city rivals Inter Milan were beaten at Bologna on Wednesday night in what was their extra game over the Rossoneri. Seven-time European champions AC Milan had a two-point lead over Inter Milan ahead of the Bologna game earlier this week.

Inter Milan had the opportunity to move ahead of AC Milan with a win at Bologna, but they were unable to secure the victory that would have taken them to the Italian Serie A summit.

Italian champions Inter Milan took the lead in the fourth minute after smashing the ball into the back of the net off the one-two quick exchange with Italian midfielder Nicola Barella. Austrian forward Marko Arnautovicequalised for Bologna in the 28th minute to ensure that the two teams went into the break just the way they started, on level terms. Inter Milan needed all the three points, but it was the hosts who got the points on offer after IonutRadu in the Inter goal made a big mistake with nine minutes left to play. Radu started in the Inter Milan goal due to the injury to regular first choice goalkeeper Samir Handanovic. The high-profile mistake from Radu might have given a second straight league title away for Inter Milan and the goalkeeper left the pitch in tears.

Bologna were able to secure another season in the Italian top flight with the win over Inter Milan as they cemented their place in 13th on the league table with 42 points from 34 games. They have 17 more points than Salernitana in third bottom with five games left for them and a maximum of 15 points.

For Inter Milan, they are two points off AC Milan with the defeat. The two Milan teams have four games left to go this season.
