Vincenzo Montella confident of holding onto AC Milan job

AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella has laughed off suggestions that he could be dismissed from his managerial role in the near future.

The Italian said that he has been watching his funeral for a while after his side drew blank in the Europa League game against AEK Athens on Thursday night.

The Rossoneri won just one of their seven games in October including defeats to Roma, Inter Milan and Juventus. Milan also drew their doubleheader against AEK without finding the scoresheet, and this is a cause of concern for a side, who appear to lack cohesion among their players.

Speaking to Sport Italia, Montella assured that the club’s hierarchy are still behind him with the club still in pole position to achieve progress to the last 32 of the Europa League, he said: “It was a delicate match today, the next ones probably will be too. Suso had a muscular problem, so I didn’t want to risk him, but he’ll probably play at the weekend. I’ve been watching my funeral for a while. It gives you a new perspective on things. All joking aside, the club has faith in me and we’ll see.” Read more… »

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that there was indeed transfer interest from AC Milan over the summer.

The Gabon international started his professional career with the Rossoneri, and he was understood to be keen on a return to San Siro.

In a report covered by Football Italia, Aubameyang confirmed that the Rossoneri had lodged an approach for his services, but the deal could not materialise due to different reasons, he said: “It’s true, Milan contacted me and offered me something. I was very interested in their project, but it didn’t go through for many different reasons.”

The Rossoneri had made contact for Aubameyang in the early part of the summer transfer window, and the failure to recruit him led them to the signing of Andre Silva. The ex-Porto graduate has already proved a huge hit for the Rossoneri with five goals in seven appearances including an impressive hat-trick in the 5-1 thumping of Austria Vienna in the Europa League opener.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang has also clarified that he no longer dreams of a Real Madrid move after the European champions showed no interest in his services. The Gabon international has established himself as the leading marksman for Dortmund following Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Bayern Munich in 2014, and he is now eager to end their Bundesliga drought which has now lasted for five seasons.
