AC Milan emerge as surprise contenders to sign Chelsea striker

Serie A outfit AC Milan have reportedly emerged as possible contenders to sign Alvaro Morata from Chelsea this summer. The Spain international endured a mixed debut season with the Blues with just 15 goals across all competitions and he has since been associated with a possible exit from Stamford Bridge.

According to Sky Italia, the Rossoneri have joined Juventus in the pursuit of the Spaniard but they are unlikely to be able to discuss a straight-cash deal. The San Siro giants are expected to sell off a couple of players in order to meet the Financial Fair Play requirements and a loan-to-buy arrangement appears their best way forward to pursue the striker.

Morata started his Blues career in a strong fashion and had notched 11 league goals by December. However, following the turn of the year, he struggled to find form in the top-flight and he managed only one more league goal before the close of the campaign. As such, the club’s hierarchy are said to be mulling over a replacement, though they have to offload the striker first to recoup transfer funds.

As reported above, Juventus are also said to be keen on the marksman but they themselves are only eyeing an initial loan move for the Spaniard. The Bianconeri are rumoured to be expecting the departure of Mario Mandzukic during this summer’s transfer window and Morata has supposedly been eyed as a possible replacement having previously spent two years with the club.

Despite the speculation, Morata’s future at Chelsea remains on hold for the moment with the Blues yet to decide on the position of manager Antonio Conte. The Italian has widely been tipped to get the axe at the end of the season but the club are understood to be playing the waiting time with top managerial target Maurizio Sarri yet to agree upon a potential move to Stamford Bridge
