Alvarez could have been playing for Real Madrid after he was one step away from joining the Spanish team at a young age. He came through the youth system at River Plate and has exploded into premium action this season to alert the attention of big European teams such as AC Milan. Alvarez has an attacking return of 15 goals and six assists in 16 league games this season, including ten goals in his last six matches in the league. Milan target Alvarez scored four goals in his last match.

Milan have been monitoring Alvarez for months. The River Plate player has already drawn comparison with Bayern Munich and Germany star Thomas Mueller from journalist Federico Bulos. According to him, River Plate have the Thomas Mueller of Argentine football in Alvarez as he does not play any specific position. Just like what’s obtainable with Mueller for Bayern and Germany, AC Milan target Alvarez is not a striker, a winger or a playmaker, but a bit of all these things.

Alvarez is seen by many football stakeholders as the best player in the Argentine league. AC Milan are not the only team keen on snapping the attacker up when the transfer window reopens in the coming weeks. Apart from the Rossoneri, German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and fellow Italian team Fiorentina are also in the running for the player. It has been revealed that he has a €20m asking price and Milan would be willing to pay the said fee.
