Vincenzo Montella confident of holding onto AC Milan job

AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella has laughed off suggestions that he could be dismissed from his managerial role in the near future.

The Italian said that he has been watching his funeral for a while after his side drew blank in the Europa League game against AEK Athens on Thursday night.

The Rossoneri won just one of their seven games in October including defeats to Roma, Inter Milan and Juventus. Milan also drew their doubleheader against AEK without finding the scoresheet, and this is a cause of concern for a side, who appear to lack cohesion among their players.

Speaking to Sport Italia, Montella assured that the club’s hierarchy are still behind him with the club still in pole position to achieve progress to the last 32 of the Europa League, he said: “It was a delicate match today, the next ones probably will be too. Suso had a muscular problem, so I didn’t want to risk him, but he’ll probably play at the weekend. I’ve been watching my funeral for a while. It gives you a new perspective on things. All joking aside, the club has faith in me and we’ll see.” Read more… »

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang confirms AC Milan talks

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that there was indeed transfer interest from AC Milan over the summer.

The Gabon international started his professional career with the Rossoneri, and he was understood to be keen on a return to San Siro.

In a report covered by Football Italia, Aubameyang confirmed that the Rossoneri had lodged an approach for his services, but the deal could not materialise due to different reasons, he said: “It’s true, Milan contacted me and offered me something. I was very interested in their project, but it didn’t go through for many different reasons.”

The Rossoneri had made contact for Aubameyang in the early part of the summer transfer window, and the failure to recruit him led them to the signing of Andre Silva. The ex-Porto graduate has already proved a huge hit for the Rossoneri with five goals in seven appearances including an impressive hat-trick in the 5-1 thumping of Austria Vienna in the Europa League opener.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang has also clarified that he no longer dreams of a Real Madrid move after the European champions showed no interest in his services. The Gabon international has established himself as the leading marksman for Dortmund following Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Bayern Munich in 2014, and he is now eager to end their Bundesliga drought which has now lasted for five seasons. Vincenzo Montella: AC Milan still on the right path

AC Milan head coach Vincenzo Montella insists that the Rossoneri are still on the right path despite their disappointing 2-0 defeat to AS Roma on home soil.

The Rossoneri are said to have the ambition of securing a Champions League spot for the campaign after having coughed up more than 160 million pounds on 11 players including Leonardo Bonucci, Andre Silva and HakanCalhanoglu.

Edin Dzeko and Alessandro Florenzi bagged the goals for AS Roma, who are now six points adrift of leaders Napoli with a game in hand. As a result, Montella’s side have suffered back-to-back defeats to Sampdoria and Roma respectively, and this had led to murmurs across social media that Carlo Ancelotti could make a surprise return to Milan, where he enjoyed most of his success a decade ago. Leonardo Bonucci reveals why he left Juventus for AC Milan

AC Milan captain Leonardo Bonucci has lifted the lid on why he made the controversial switch to San Siro from Juventus during this summer’s transfer window.

The Italy international has made a good start to his career with the Rossoneri after having won the first two games of the Serie A season.

Speaking from Italy’s training centre on Tuesday, Bonucci admitted that he had to move on from the Serie A holders due to decisions made from the club’s hierarchy, he said: “I left Juventus because of some decisions made by the board. One must have balls to do what I did. They told me I am traitor, a mercenary and other stuff even if I always gave the best for Juventus. I did get along with Juventus until the end. I was not doing the difference in the defence of Juventus, I played alongside great champions and without them it wouldn’t have been the same for me.” Read more… »

Bayern Munich midfielder snubs Chelsea in favour of AC Milan

Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches has opted to snub advances from Premier League’s Chelsea in order to pursue a move to AC Milan this summer.

The Portugal international is likely to join the Rossoneri on a temporary basis with Bayern hoping that the player will evolve into a top-class prospect in the future.

Sanches, 19, struggled to make a regular appearance in the German top-flight last season, and he was restricted to just six starts through the campaign. Following last week’s 3-2 friendly win over Chelsea, Sanches admitted that he would prefer to join AC Milan, where he would get more of an opportunity to progress, he said: “Of course, I would like to play more that’s why I want to change and go to a club where I would play more. AC Milan is an interesting option. If the opportunity emerges and the clubs can agree, I would like to know. I’m young, I want and I have to play a lot. I think the chance to do so is greater in Milan than in Munich.” Read more… »

LEIVA REVEALS AC MILAN BID

Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has admitted that he chose Lazio above many other clubs this summer. The Brazil international had been linked with the likes of AC Milan, Newcastle United and Gremio during the transfer window before he decided to link up with the Rome-based outfit.

Leiva spent 10 seasons with Liverpool, where they were mostly in a transition phase, and he thereby did not get the chance to celebrate the success achieved prior to his arrival. Overall, the Brazilian made 344 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions, while bagging seven goals in the process. Read more… »
